Beyond The Gate is a concert experience unlike any other in the city. It takes place in a cemetery, around the time of a full moon/summer solstice, surrounded by the Bohemian National Cemetery Mausoleum. 2013 was was the first year we did this event, with J.R. ROBINSON from WREKMEISTER HARMONIES taking the lead, and you can relive the glory of that little experiment in the Chicago Reader's Soundcheck recap. Last year, underground psychedelic/experimental legend SILVER APPLES headlined with WREKMEISTER and MAGIK MARKERS opening. This year's headliner will be FOUNTAINSUN, the newest project from LUNGFISH frontman DANIEL HIGGS and tokyo percussionist FUMIE ISHII. FOUNTAINSUN was formed in Autumn 2011 and has gradually developed over the years, touring/recording sporadically, and continuing to adjust and improve the fountainsong at live concerts The core members are committed, through sound and gesture, to participation in a song-sustained state of higher communication with all present at live concert events and in daily life. Stylistically, the duo employs a universal-folkpsalm form, with voice, strings, drums, etc., an “all are welcome” sound. The band's debut, Music Today, is being prepared for release this year. WREKMEISTER is back in the saddle to perform second and Chicago-based electro-goth duo HIDE will open with a set that will rattle skulls and shake rumps. ROB SEVIER of the Numero Group will be DJing our favorite New Age tracks throughout the evening, as well.
The show will take place near the Mausoleum at the south-east corner of Pulaski and Bryn Mawr. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and music starts at 7pm. Check out more information at the Facebook event.
